Board Candidates

Treasurer

Candidate: Dabney McFarlane

My name is Dabney McFarlane and I live in Burien with my husband and two kids.
My family has been members of the pool since 2022, but my husband grew up going to GSSC. He has fond memories of riding his bike in the summers to GSSC to go swimming with his friends and family.

I recently returned to work full time with the city of Burien PaRC’s department overseeing adult and senior programs as well as rentals.

I enjoy working for the city I live in and find it very fulfilling to serve the community.

I volunteered during the summer at GSSC when my daughter was on swim and dive team. The pool community is amazing and I have made many friendships bonding with the parents and coaches/staff that work so hard to make the pool run and support the children who are on swim and dive team.

I would love to continue to help make GSSC the best it can be and to support our pool community.

Thank you for your time.
Dabney

Candidate: Riana Nolet

Hi, I’m Riana Nolet, a member of the pool and Burien resident.

I have worked primarily in the non-profit sector with my last non-profit role as the Director of a community building program for the Phinney Neighborhood Association. I was there for 8 years but left a little after we moved from Ballard to Burien. I am currently the Director of Marketing and Community Engagement for my husband’s real estate company, Anchor Home Services.

Having worked in the non-profit sector for almost 20 years, I have worn many hats and am a bit of a Jane-of-all-Trades. I have worked closely with boards, served in secretary roles, managed a large budget, tracked finances, and have a strong background in detail oriented administrative work.

My family and I (My husband, daughter 7, son 5, and my two parents) moved to Burien in 2021. Having all grown up in north Seattle, this was a big change for us but we are so happy we did it. We are building a multi-generational home, which has long been a dream of ours, and with our kids at Three Tree Montessori and Gregory Heights Elementary, have gotten to know many families and are loving the community here. We joined the pool this past summer and had the best time! In particular we loved that our kids always seemed to have friends from their schools to play with, the life guards were wonderful, and the vibe was relaxed and welcoming. We are very interested in continuing to build connections in the community and supporting this board seems like a great way to get further involved.

Membership Chair

Candidate: Melissa Garcia

Hi there!

My name is Melissa Garcia. My husband Kemp and I became members in 2016 when our oldest daughter Olivia was 3 years old. It’s hard to believe we’ve been enjoying the pool for 6 seasons. Since then we’ve added another daughter, Meleah who is almost 6. Her and I spent almost every day at the pool while I was on maternity leave and have met so many amazing families and made so many memories.

Over the last two years I have stepped as a board member to finish out terms as the Vice President for a season and this season as Membership Chair.

As Membership Chair I spent 15-20 hours a week this season emailing with a lot of you, getting to know you virtually and then in person at the pool, which I thoroughly enjoyed and was my favorite part of the role. My biggest aspiration when I stepped into this role was to get our active membership to capacity.  We went from 210 active members by the end of 2022 to 300 in 2023 and for the first time in many years, I’m so pleased to say our membership is full! Because we gained 90 new members, we were able to bring in a significant amount of revenue so we are in a good place financially next season.

This year I would love for you to vote for me as Membership Chair so we can keep the momentum and membership full as well as offering our new members support so that their onboarding experience is fun and welcoming.

Thank you for your consideration and I can’t wait to see you all next season!

Candidate: Kaitlyn Lautman

My name is Kaitlyn Lautman, and my family of 4 became members this summer.  My husband Brien and I have two young sons (ages 2 and 4).  The Lautman family has a long history at Gregory-Seahurst… you may know Scott Lautman, he is my husband’s uncle.  Lester Lautman (my husband’s grandfather) was one of the founding members of Gregory Seahurst.  Swimming is an important part of the Lautman family, and we are excited for our boys to join summer swim league when they are able.  While I didn’t grow up in this area, my husband has so many fond memories of his time on summer swim league (at OV) and life-guarding, and we are excited for all of our future time at the pool together as a family.

I believe in giving back to the community that you live in, and would be happy to help serve the pool community.  I am a school Principal by day, so I bring with me strong admin, leadership, and organization skills.

Best,
Kaitlyn Lautman

Youth Coordinator

Candidate: Lauren Silver
I’m Lauren Silver and I would love to serve as our GSSC Youth Coordinator.  During the three years my kids have been on swim team, I have volunteered in various swim team roles including computer operator, assistant swim coordinator and swim coordinator. I’m eager to support all of our teams in the coming years and foster the gator team spirit.
